IBS Insurance and Reinsurance Broking Services Inc. assigned to 1915 Çanakkale Bridge and Istanbul Airport as co-broker and marked in the industry last year has been assigned to Turkey’s largest container harbour in the Mersin Harbour as insurance broker. IBS will undertake the risks of Mersin Harbour for 3 years with a price of 5 billion TRY.
IBS, one of Turkey’s leading insurance and reassurance brokering companies became the insurance broker of Turkey’s biggest container harbour Mersin Port after 1915 Çanakkale Bridge and Istanbul Airport. IBS which will be providing services for Mersin Harbour for 3 years with a price of 5 billion TRY will undertake the risks including damages that may occur in the harbour assets, damages to employees, damages to be caused on commodities, closure of the port as a result of an event or the cease of the activity.
Mersin Harbour is a Very Big Operation
Stating that Mersin Harbour is the largest container harbour of Turkey and it covers a significant portion of exports and imports of the country, IBS Insurance and Reinsurance Broking Services Inc. General Manager Murat Çiftçi noted that they are proud to be appointed as an insurance broker for such an important harbour in terms of the country’s economy. Noting that they were competing with the major global players in the tender process Murat Çiftçi added that: “In this process, we won the tender thanks to our dedicated works and expert team. We will continue to serve Mersin Harbour for the next 3 years”.
Emphasizing that Mersin Harbour being a very big operation has very major risks, Murat Çiftçi said that: “In addition to these features, we have an insurance price almost 5 billion TRY considering the risks such as the size of the harbour area, equipment, responsibilities and cease of the activity.”

Noting that Mersin Harbour is a large zone where the activities do not cease during the day and people, cargoes and ships move continuously Murat Çiftçi said that this situation brings many different risks. Listing the risks such as damages that may occur in the harbour assets, damages to employees, damages to be caused on commodities, closure of the port as a result of an event or the cease of the activity Murat Çiftçi said that “As IBS, we designed and presented policies providing different guarantees in the light of all these risks. In this process, we will offer services with our experienced technical and damage teams. It is very important to prevent the damage in advance by conducting comprehensive risk management and reading the potential risks correctly.”
Mersin Harbour has a big role in global arena
Stating that the first three countries that come to mind with the harbour are China, Singapore and Netherlands Murat Çiftçi said: “The harbour activities in our country are less compared to the activities of these countries. However, Mersin Harbour is an important example of where we are in terms of harbour insurance. In addition to Mersin Harbour, we have some other provinces where harbours and harbour insurance are important such as, İstanbul, Kocaeli, İzmir, Tekirdağ and Bursa.”
